THELASMOS GALLERY
NUMISMATIC Section. Money coins, medals and bank bills.
Amazingly, some countries have issued coins and bills of legal currency that depicted wonderful images of Breastfeeding. We ought not to forget the enormous coin production by the Roman Empire with representation of a female wolf suckling the mythological founders of Rome.
In addition to a scanty amount of religious medals, we have also fund commemorative ones and tokens devoted to several themes like family, society, commerce and health care. Many of them were made by authors at the end of XIX and beginning of XX century that belonged to the Art Nouveau movement.
Art Nouveau (Modernism, Modern Style, Liberty, Jugendstil, Floreale) was a movement that appeared in Belgium and France and flourished between 1893 to 1905. It was mostly a new decorative style that was applied to minor arts: furniture, jewelry, print, crystal, ceramics, posters and architecture. In Spain, Gaudi applied it structurally to architecture.
Come in and enjoy this section which is small but extremely interesting.
